Reading Requirements: â€‹Reading my be the most important skill students will ever develop. It allows them to become lifelong, independent learners. For students to become skilled, motivated readers, they need to see reading as part of their daily lives, rather than as a part of their school day. Consistent, appropriate reading practice is the best way to develop reading skills.

The reading program in your child's fourth grade classroom is developed around daily reading practice at his/her independent reading level. Students will set quarterly reading goals based on their tested grade-equivalent score. They will spend at least 30 minutes per day in class reading independently. Quality use of this time PLUS at home reading will allow them to attain their goals successfully.

Homework: Each day students will have a short math assignment to complete at home. This assignment provides independent practice of skills and strategies learned at school, and should take no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete. In addition, we ask that all students spend at least 20-30 minutes daily reading independently at home. They should also practice spelling words and multiplication facts regularly.

Schoolwork should be a reflection of your child's best efforts! late or incomplete work will be completed at recess. Late work will not be given full credit. Parents will be notified if late work becomes a problem.

Friday Folders:  Each Friday your child will bring home their "Friday Folder". The folder will contain some of their completed work, as well as important notes from school, a current AR report, and  the next week's spelling list. Please review with your child all contents of the folder. It should be signed and returned each Monday.  ï»¿I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

Behavioral Expectations: In order for all students to be successful in school, we will develop with the children some guidelines for an ideal learning environment. Students will be encouraged to make responsible decisions regarding their behavior. Consequences for misconduct will relate to the misbehavior. If a student consistently disrupts classroom learning, parents will be contacted. ï»¿

Birthday Celebrations:  â€‹Children are naturally excited about their birthdays. Birthdays will be recognized in the classroom. We will take a few minutes to distribute treats and sing Happy Birthday, but please keep individual parties at home.
